Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How will motorists learn about changing traffic patterns?
A. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will provide information on its NJ511 Travel Information Web site, on variable message signs in the travel corridor and radio traffic services.

Q. How will the contractor close lanes?
A.

The contractor will close lanes using the appropriate advance signing in coordination with the State Police and according to the detailed Traffic Control/Staging Plans. Any further lane closure work will be done during off-peak travel times.

Q. What are the motorist-friendly features in this project?
A. Guide rails will be upgraded to current state and federal design standards. New striping, raised pavement markers and defined lines will be provided.

Q. Why are we doing this work?
A.

Deterioration of roadway pavement and bridge decks, poor roadway geometry, and increased traffic volumes have contributed to the increase in number of accidents on I-295.

Q. Did local officials and residents participate in the planning?
A. This project was designed in cooperation with Camden and Gloucester counties along with local officials.
