Roadway Information Overview

New Jersey's public roads are described and classified in a variety of ways that enable public agencies to keep them safe and maintained. The traffic using these roadways is also categorized for the same purposes.

Traffic Monitoring System Overview

The New Jersey’s Traffic Monitoring Program (pdf 1.1m) is composed of Short Term Data Collection Program, Continuous Traffic Monitoring Program (from permanent TVS and WIM sites), TMS Database Maintenance and the TMS Infrastructure Renewal Program.

The Bureau of Transportation Data and Support is responsible for data collection, processing, summarization and dissemination of traffic data including the installation and maintenance of permanent TMS sites.
