August 1 to September 8, 2007 - Completed |
Using overnight lane closures, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will begin work on the shoulder reconstruction on I-287 in both directions and on the median crossover roadway in the area of Durham Avenue. This preliminary work is necessary in order to shift traffic for the next phase of construction. |

September 8 to December 12, 2007 - Completed
I-287 northbound bridge over Durham Avenue |
New traffic patterns during construction of the I-287 northbound bridge over Durham Avenue will:
- Shift the three lanes of traffic on I-287 southbound to the right using the shoulder, right lane, and center lane. A barrier will be placed between the southbound center and left lanes.
- Move the three lanes of traffic on I-287 northbound. The left lane of traffic will crossover to the other side of I-287, go across the southbound structure using the southbound left lane, then cross back to the northbound side. The right and center lanes will continue across the inner half of the northbound structure while construction begins on the outer half of the bridge.
- Complete half of the northbound bridge construction so that the northbound right and center lanes will ride across the newly-constructed section. NJDOT will then shift the work to the other half of the structure.
NJDOT will return all I-287 traffic lanes in both directions to their normal configuration when the bridge work is complete. |

February to March 2008 - Completed
Route 1 |
NJDOT will construct a temporary pier in the median of Route 1 where it passes under I-287. This pier will support the temporary bridge that will carry two lanes of I-287 traffic over Route 1 during construction. The left lane of Route 1 will be closed during this construction phase. |

March to June 2008 - Completed
I-287 southbound bridge over Durham Avenue |
New traffic patterns, in effect during construction of the I-287 southbound bridge over Durham Avenue, will:
- Shift the three lanes of traffic on I-287 northbound to the right and use the shoulder, right lane, and center lane. A barrier will be placed between the northbound center and left lane.
- Move the three lanes of traffic on I-287 southbound. The left lane of traffic will cross over to the other side of I-287; go across the northbound structure using the northbound left lane, then cross back to the southbound side. The right and center lanes will continue across the inner half of the southbound structure while construction begins on the outer half of the bridge.
- Complete one-half of the southbound bridge construction to enable the southbound right and center lanes to ride across the newly-constructed section. NJDOT will then shift the work to the other half of the structure.
NJDOT will return I-287 traffic lanes in both directions to their normal configuration when the bridge work is complete.
