A bubble curtain for sheetpile installation is used to reduce in-water noise levels and disturbance to marine life during construction activities.

October
A steel frame is used as a template to ensure the pipe pile is located properly and set at the proper alignment.







An impact hammer is used to drive the pipe pile through the last few feet of soil to ensure the pile is properly seated and obtains the capacity needed. The markings on the pile indicate that the pile extends approximately 67 feet below the working platform.





A vibratory hammer is used to drive the pile pipe through the upper layers of soil. The markings on the pile indicate that the pile extends approximately 58 feet below the working platform.







A 2' 6" diameter steel pipe pile for the temporary trestle bridge is being lifted into place. The temporary trestle bridge will act as a platform for the contractor to build the new bridge from.







Septeber
A collar for the pile is being lifted off a barge and into place on the temporary trestle bridge. The collar will facilitate the connection between the pile and the support beams for the temporary trestle bridge.





This view is of one of the temporary trestle bridges. Crews are building two independent trestle bridges from each end of the Bay to ensure the low level structure does not create conflicts with the 100 foot wide navigation channel at the center of the Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridge.




An excavator helps place backfill around the newly constructed footing for a retaining wall on Cedar Bonnet Island. The retaining wall will facilitate a new parking lot on the south side of the Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridge.
