511NJ Travel Information Services

Motorists can access traveler information by calling 511 anywhere in New Jersey. This free service helps motorists to navigate New Jersey's roadways, reduce commuting times and minimize the impacts of traffic incidents. Real time traffic and travel information is provided to motorists seven days a week, 365 days a year. Traffic information is provided by a variety of sources including local law enforcement agencies, local fire departments and traffic monitoring devices such as traffic cameras and travel time sensors.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) also provides real time traffic online at www.511nj.org which offers interactive maps and displays traffic incidents. The map based Web site offers motorists real time conditions on state and interstate highways, the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike. The Web site highlights incidents, construction, weather and special events. It also includes interactive traffic cameras that provide live fee to traffic conditions on highways statewide.

NJDOT also provides Personalized Travel Services (PTS) which will send free real time road condition updates and alerts to motorists' cell phone or email accounts. Subscribers can receive information pertaining to state and interstate highways, the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike.
