Safety Service Patrol (SSP) vehicles that patrol the roadways are easily identifiable as a white vehicle with reflective red striping, the words "NJDOT Safety Service Patrol" in multiple locations on the vehicle, as well as the GEICO program sponsorship logos.

Signage on exterior of vehicle:

• Truck identification numbers on both front and quarter panels and rear of vehicle.
• Logo indicating that drivers are not permitted to accept tips and that the SSP is a free service provided to motorists.
• Signs indicating that motorists should "Keep 500 feet back for safety."
• Signs promoting New Jersey's 511 Travel Information Service
• Logo with former SSP Operator Joe Kealey's call number (7133) in tribute to Joe, who was killed in the line of duty in January 2010.

Each vehicle is equipped for small repairs to assist motorists and for safety set-ups at incident scenes.

• Lock-out kit
• Portable emergency signing
• Water and antifreeze
• Fire extinguisher
• Flashlights

• Diversion signs to detour traffic
• Truck mounted attenuators (on some SSP vehicles)

Each driver is responsible for the vehicle and its contents. To ensure drivers have all the tools needed to accomplish their mission, each driver must complete an equipment checklist before his/her designated shift begins and any deficiencies must be reported to the shift supervisor for repair or replacement.
