NJDOT Commissioner Dilts breaks ground on the new $29 million ARRA funded project that will completely rehabilitate I-287 from west of Stelton Road in Piscataway to Main Street in Franklin Township. On hand at the event to mark the start of construction were Tom DiGangi, Chief of Staff at NJ SDA and Piscatway Mayor Brian Wahler.

Governor Jon S. Corzine joined NJDOT Commissioner Stephen Dilts at a press conference to mark the completion of the $200 million roadway reconstruction on Route 18 a major transportation artery that not only provides access to downtown New Brunswick and Rutgers, but regional hospitals, major corporations, local businesses and residential communities.

Joining Commissioner Dilts to help break ground on the project were West Windsor Mayor Shing Fu-Hseuh, Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes, Lawrence Mayor Pam Mount, Congressman Rush Holt and Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein.

Governor Jon Corzine and NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri break ground for construction of a new Route 52 Causeway connecting Ocean City with Somers Point. The $141 million project, one of NJDOT's largest, will replace the existing, structurally deficient Causeway with an improved structure. The Causeway is the evacuation route for Ocean City. With them are Freeholder Director Daniel Beyel of Cape May County, Mayor Daniel Reilly of Somers Point, Mayor Sal Petillo of Ocean City, Senator Nicholas Asselta (R-1), Assemblyman Jefferson Van Drew (D-1), Assemblyman Nelson Albano (D-1) and members of the George Harms Construction Company, Inc., crew.

NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri (third left) joined with Congressman Bill Pascrell (sixth left) to announce the new five-year $15 million "New Jersey Safe Routes to Schools” program at the Rand School in Montclair. With them are Assemblyman Thomas Giblin (D-34), Montclair Mayor Ed Remsen, Senator Nia Gill (D-34), Montclair Township Manager Joseph Hartnett , Montclair Councilwoman Robin Shlager, Councilwoman Joyce Michaelson, Rand School Principal Evelyn Gonzalez-Spivey. Students from the Rand School, a New Jersey Safe Routes to School demonstration program, were also present. New Jersey Safe Routes to School is part of a nationwide effort to create safer walkways and bikeways and street crossings and to improve motorists’ awareness of school children and school children’s awareness of motorists.

Governor Jon Corzine (center) and Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri unveil the plaque that names NJ TRANSIT's hedquarters after its founder, Louis J. Gambaccini (right) at the Newark facility on September 13, 2006. As NJDOT Commissioner in the late 1970s, it was Gambaccini's vision that lead to combine nearly 30 bankrupt bus companies and seven struggling railroads to form NJ TRANSIT, the first statewide mass transit system in the US. Buses began service in 1982 and trains in 1983. Today the agency, the third largest in the nation, provides 857,000 weekdays trips on 240 bus routes, 11 commuter rail and three light rail lines. It operates 162 rail stations, 60 light rail stations and more than 18,000 bus stops.

Streetscape improvements begin on Route 82 (Morris Avenue)

NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri marked the beginning of construction of safety and streetscape improvements along Route 82 ( Morris Avenue) in Union and Elizabeth at a groundbreaking on Friday, July 21, 2006 outside the Union Township Municipal Building. This project was selected as a prototype of how the NJDOT is encouraging redevelopment of urban areas. With Kolluri were Union Councilman Anthony Terrezza, Union Deputy Mayor Brenda Restivo, Union Township Mayor Peter Capodice, Assemblyman Joseph Cryan and NJDOT Deputy Commissioner Steven Dilts.

Corzine issues state of emergency in four counties along Delaware River

Governor Corzine declared a limited state of emergency in four New Jersey counties due flooding along the Delaware River flooding at a June 28, 2006 press conference during which NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri announced the closing of Route 29 in Trenton. They were joined by Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer and emergency workers.

NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri marks the opening of the new Port Imperial Ferry Terminal in Weehawken on May 22, 2006. The 33,000 square foot facility on the Hudson River serving New York Waterway ferry passengers will accommodate as many as 20,000 commuters each day. On hand at the opening were US Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, Assemblyman Albio Sires, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, NY Waterway Founder, Arthur Imperatore Sr., US Senator Robert Menendez and State Senator/North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco.

Commissioner Kris Kolluri announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation has completed installation of 1,900 feet of cross median barrier and inside shoulders on a dangerous stretch of Route 1 & 9 in Linden. Commissioner Kolluri announced that NJDOT has designated the site part of a new ‘Safe Corridor’ that will cover Route 1 & 9 along Woodbridge, Rahway, Linden and Elizabeth. With him at the event were Assemblywoman Linda Stender, Senator Nicholas Scutari and Linden Mayor John T. Gregorio.

NJDOT plans to expand its ridesharing and carpool benefits to relieve the financial burden on motorists. Attorney General Zalima Farber was also present at the event.
